OK A brief set of Thanks you-s before I dash off...

I cleaned off my desk and forund 2 cards I that I got about 3 weeks ago so [info]lurve_me  thank you so much for the rock of Bernal card, it's beautiful. And [info]hellolinn Thanks for the beautiful flowers.

This week I've gotten the facinating Dunkleosteus terrelli.... Scary :) from [info]ddokkaebi - you have a friend named Corrine? THat's awesome, there are so few of us no matter how you spell it. From [info]larochka173 I love the Earth from Above card of the dyers in Fez! I had to look so hard to find the people and to determine the scale, that's cool. [info]maryweather sent me a lovely bird in flight. I love it even more because one of the PO offices stuck a special delivery sticker and post mark on the front of the card. It's like the bird is flying the special delivery :) I love that!

How long could you survive on your own in the wild?

I'm good until my only option for water is to squeeze some out of elephant dung. At that point I give up, I surrender, let the scavenger animals come.

:) There's something magical about the hours just before dawn. The air itself is a beautiful thing. The wind is blowing through my chimes and making a soft symphony. Insomnia does have it advantages.

I think I 'll go sit by the pool and read and wait for the sun rise. I haven't seen one in a while.

:)

Tomorrow is going to suck.

So a half hour ago I was driving home and saw the lightening in the distance and heard some muffled thunder.

10 minutes ago a massive resounding crash, that set of all the car alarms in the area, reverberated off the buildings and the rain started. No, the downpour.  Within a couple of minutes the water running through the parking lot was even with the sidewalk.

I I went to stand on the porch to watch and found every person in my apartment complex doing the same thing.

6 minutes ago the hail started.

Now it's a fast, soaking rain. Low rumbles of thunder can be heard every couple of minutes and lightening still makes it look like noon once in a while.

Humm... two days ago it was snowing on me, now a summer storm.  Gotta love weather in Texas!

So yesterday was my last day and it went pretty well. My friends are great and I will miss hanging out with them every day... I need to make it a point to go see them often.

It was a busy lunch so I got to make good money on my last server shift there and then they let me work in the kitchen at night so I could leave before 8 to  drive back to my grandmother's house (an hour drive). My friends got me a cake, a ballon, a candle (woodwick-my fav!!!) and one guy brought me flowers. There was some crying (not by me.. I was too happy) but all in all it was a good good bye. No major drama, I left before that could start.

Now on to Humperdink's... Tomorrow is my orentation where I'll get my training schedule and we will see how we can work out my real schedule. I really hope there is not issue with me taking off  for Beltaine... I'm going, no question about it.

YAY !!! I'm excited about my new job!!!

Putting legal definitions aside, at what age do you think someone can really be considered an adult?

View other answers

Depends on the person. I think either ago 8 or 42.

No way in hell should you be considered an adult during the teenage years. From 12-at least 20 you are not even human you are just hormones...

I really shouldn't answer these things at 3:30 am...

Overheard today at Walmart (of course!) being screamed across the store:

"Cindy Lauper Blackwell, get your butt over here now!"

Of course this is being yelled by what I assumed is the mother who looks all of 19 at 5 year old running though the housewares section. I'm sure it was spelled with an  extra 'y' add an 'h' and and apostrophe in the middle name and there you go. Hopefully the kid will be smart enough when she gets older to just just say "nope, I don't have a middle name, I don't know why..."

Do you ever go out to dinner (at a sit-down restaurant) by yourself?

View other answers

It amazes me that this is a question. Of course I do, why wouldn't I? I am dumbfounded when I hear people say "oh I couldn't go by myself!" why the hell not? Take a book, magazine, lap top, or write a letter and enjoy being alone . Do people really care if someone wonders about why they are by them self? I just don't understand.

I am getting a new refrigerator!!!! Like right now!

I work up a bit ago to knocking at me door ... took me a while to wake up and realize what was going on, by the time I got up and dressed the maintenance guys were gone. The office called to leave me a message and and ask when I could clean everything out of my refrigerator... I said like 15 minutes!!!!

So yea! in about 5 minutes they will be finished installing it and then no more loud bumps in the night! *

Anyone know how long it takes to get cold in a new refrigerator?

What to do:

Go to musicoutfitters.com

Enter the year you graduated from (high) school in the search function and get the list of the 100 most popular songs that year.

Bold the songs you like, strike through the ones you don't and underline your favorite. Do nothing to the ones you don't remember (or don't care about).

Drum roll please for the class of 1998! )

Janet Gerard

  • Jan. 6th, 2009 at 11:34 AM
fly, magic

The main reason I am becoming a teacher passed away on Dec 23. My mother just got a district wide email announcing her death and listing the memorial service for this Saturday. Janet Gerard was my 10th grade English teacher, and also my UIL coach for Debate, extemp, and prose. She fought for me to have special arraingments my Junior and senior year so that I could get my (un)neccessary credits like PE and health and still be editor of the paper, a debate coach, and in chior. Ms. Gerard was always there for me as a mentor and as a friend. Sometimes our after school sessions would disvolve into talking and bitching sessions. When I had a problem with a teacher she helped me get through it. When my father took being an asshole to new heights my senior year, Ms Gerard held my hand and let me cry, then gave me a ton of work to keep me busy. She understood that I loved to read and could do it fast, so she assigned me double the books to increase my grades and keep me from being bored in class.

From what they've taught me in my classes on teaching methods lately Ms. Gerard was a throwback. She never walked the aisles checking on students work, she never used consequences, if you were in her class you needed to be prepared to read aloud, whether you were comfortable or not. She had many health problems and was unable to walk around her classroom much but the students did their work any way. I'm sure she must have said something about rules the first day of class but they never had to be mentioned again. She would either help those who needed reading help or find the help they needed. She cared and we knew it.

Ms. Gerard was that special person, she taught because it came naturally, she related to teenagers because she still was one at heart. She treated us like we were adults and respected us for our abilities. Since starting on this teaching career path over a year ago, when asked what kind of teacher I want to be, the answer was just like Ms. Gerard. I want to teach several English classes including advanced, I want to coach UIL and I want to be the cool teacher, even when I retire. Just like Ms. Gerard.

She will be missed.
